(Mihai Eminescu, La steaua)

Plecat-o, plecat(u).

Puternicu soare,

Că el să să 'nsoare.

Și el cât umblare

V'optsprezece ani

Pě'-optsprezece caï,

Noŭă cai muriè

Noŭă s'obosè,

Soața nu-și găsè

Pân' pă soră sa,

Ana Sânziana

Sora soarelui.

Puternicu soare

El din graï grăiè:

–Țese, Ano, țese

Fir și ibrișin,

Haine de mătasă,

Ca să-mi fi mireasă.

Iè din gra grăiè:

–Puternicu soare,

Ș-al mieŭ frățioare,

Atunci ți-oi fi ție

Eŭ ție soție

Până la vecie,

Când tu mi î face

O scară de fier

Din fundul de mări

Pân'la naltul ceri,

Pân' la moş Adam

Și la moaşa Eva,

Și mi-i întreba:

Fi-o bin'aşa,

Pă lume să iè

O soră cu-on frate,

Și-on frate cu-o soră,

Pă lume de dor?

Puternicu soare

Cu gând îmi gândè.

Scara să făcè

Și mi să suiè

Pân'la nal tul cerì

Pân'la moş Adam

Și la moaşa Eva.

–Dragă moș Adame,

Vin la întrebare

Tot pe Dumneatale:

Fi-o bin' aşa

Pă lume să ǐè

O soră c-on frate Și-o

n frate cu-o soră,

Pă lume de dor?

Iară moș Adam

Și cu moaşa Eva

Pă soare-I lega

Și'n iad mi-l băga.

Iadul lumina,

Lumea 'ntuneca.

Iară moş Adam

Și eu moașa Eva

Ce să mai gândè?

Pă soare-l scotè,

Iar mi-l slobozè.

Și el să ducè

Pân' la soră-sa:

–Țese Ano, țese

Ca să-mi faci cămieșe

Fir și ibrișin,

Haïne de mătasă,

Ca să-mi fi mireasă.

Ana Sânziana

Īè din gra grăè:

–Puternicu soare

Și-al mieŭ frățioare,

Atunci ți-oi fi ție

Eŭ ție soție

Pană la vecie,

Când tu mi îi face

Tot on pod dě-argint

Tot păstă pământ,

Și 'n capăt de pod o

Naltă mănăstire

Și-on popă de ciară

Cum nu e pe lumea:

Ala ne cunune.

Puternicu soare

Cu gându-mi gândè,

Podu să făcè,

De mână lua

Tot pe soră-sa,

Pă pot îmi pleca.

Soarele-mi pripè,

Popa să topè.

Dumnezeul mi-l lŭa,

Pă cer mi-l punè,

Când luna răsere,

Soarele apune.

...lumina stinsului amor

ne urmărește încă

Mihai Eminescu, To the star

Translated by E. C. Teodorescu

He has gone, departed

Mighty son of daylight,

That he might get wedded.

While he journeyed thus,

About eighteen years,

Upon eighteen steeds,

Nine steeds came to die,

Nine got tired out,

Yet he found no bride

But his sister fair,

Ana Sânziana,

Sister of the sun.

Lo, the mighty sun then

Spoke and said to her:

Weave, Ana, start weaving

Thread of gold and silk,

Silken gowns to fashion

That you might my bride be.

She spoke out and said:

Mighty sun of daylight,

And my little brother,

Only then shall I be

To yourself a true bride

Till time everlasting,

When you shall have made me

A ladder of iron

From the bed of seas

Up to the high sky.

Up to Father Adam

And to Mother Eve.

And you'll ask of them:

Be it rightful thus

In the world to wed

A sister her brother,

A brother his sister,

In the world of yearn?

Mighty sun of daylight,

With his mind gave thought,

The ladder was made,

And he climbed on it,

Up to the high sky,

Up to Father Adam,

And to Mother Eve.

Father Adam dear,

I have come to question,

Ask of you a question:

Be it rightful thus

In the world to wed

A sister her brother,

A brother her sister,

In the world of yearn?

Father Adam with

Mother Eve together

Bound the mighty sun,

Thrust him into hell.

He was lighted up,

Darkened was the world.

Father Adam with

Mother Eve together,

What else did they think?

They brought up the sun,

Set him free again.

Thereupon he went,

To his sister fair:

Wave Ana, start weaving,

Shirt for me to fashion,

Thread of gold and silk.

Silken gowns to fashion

That you might my bride be.

Ana Sânziana,

Spoke and said to him:

Mighty sun of daylight,

And my little brother,

Only then shall I be

To yourself a true bride

Till time everlasting,

When you shall have built me

A fine silver bridge

Over all the earth,

At the bridge's end, too

A tall monastery,

And a priest of beeswax,

As there's none on earth more:

'Twill be here who'll wed us.

Mighty sun of daylight

With his mind gave thought,

And the bridge was built.

By the hand he took

His own sister then.

On the bridge set off.

Hurried was the sun,

Melted was the priest.

God then took him up,

Set him in the sky.

When the moon now rises,

Sets the sun of daylight.

... The gleam of its extinguished fire

Enkindles yet our soul.
